Lord Jesus, who prayed that we might all be one, we pray to you for the unity of Christians, according to your will, according to your means. May your Spirit enable us to experience the suffering caused by division, to see our sin, and to hope beyond all hope.
–––Adapted from a prayer by Abbe Paul Couturier
Amen.
Tomorrow Christians will gather to worship, pray, celebrate the sacraments (or ordinances), have fellowship, and hear from God’s word. They will do so in various sorts of buildings. In my part of the world, there is no shortage of church buildings. Though in many buildings you could say there’s a shortage of believers. Perhaps a time will come when we realize that gathering together in unity is more important than the buildings in which we gather.
Let us pray.
