I came across this quote and thought it was well worth sharing. Below it is a prayer that goes along with it. May God enable us to find ourselves in him.

Usually we have sunk the roots of our identity into things that, in and of themselves, are part of God’s good creation, yet they are things that are never sufficient ground for our identity. In order to detach our identity from those things we must yield ourselves to God in love precisely at those points of attachment.

God, please forgive me for when I’ve rooted my identity in created things rather than the Creator. Whatever I am attached to in an unhealthy way, give me the grace to let it go. Today I yield to Your love and I offer You mine in return. Amen.
